Climate change as a phenomenon

The ongoing anthropogenic climate change is mainly caused by an increase in the amount of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. If emissions continue to rise at the present rate, the global average surface temperature will rise between two and six degrees by the end of this century due to the amplification of the greenhouse effect. In some parts of the world, changes in precipitation will lead to more severe droughts and in others, an increased risk of flooding.

In this section of portal, scientific knowledge of the phenomenon, the global climate change, can be explored in Finnish. However, as there are plenty of reliable and informative websites already available in English on the matter, we have not translated this part of the portal from Finnish to either English or Swedish. Nevertheless, we have visual materials for you to explore. We recommend the following sites for further information on the scientific basis of climate change (see External links).
